Hyderabad, July 18 -- In a landmark achievement, Osmania General Hospital (OGH), Hyderabad, successfully performed a lifesaving emergency liver transplant on a 17-year-old girl under the Super Urgent Category of the Jeevandan organ donation program, marking the first such case in a government hospital in India.

Miss Blessy Goud, a resident of Film Nagar, was admitted to OGH on May 12 in a critical, gasping state with acute fulminant liver failure. She was placed on a ventilator with severe jaundice, coagulopathy, metabolic acidosis, and grade 4 hepatic encephalopathy. Her condition deteriorated rapidly, and without a liver transplant within 48 hours, survival was unlikely.
