Bhubaneswar, May 6 -- In response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) voicing concern over the non-appointment of an Ombudsperson at the State-run Utkal University, the Orissa High Court on Wednesday issued show cause notice to varsity authorities seeking a compliance report within two weeks.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Harish Tandon and Justice M.S. Raman taking cognizance of a PIL filed by advocate and alumnus Prabir Kumar Das passed the order in this regard.

Under the University Grants Commission (UGC) Student Grievance Redressal Regulations, 2023, every university is required to appoint an Ombudsperson to address appeals against decisions of institutional grievance committees.
