Kolkata, Feb. 1 -- The union Budget presented by the Prime Minster Narendra Modi government drew sharp criticism from the Left Front and the Congress on Sunday, with Opposition leaders alleging that it favours corporates while offering little relief to ordinary citizens grappling with unemployment, price rise and agrarian distress.

Senior CPI(M) leader and Polit Bureau member Nilotpal Basu said the broad thrust of the Budget was to provide concessions to large corporates at a time when public finances were under strain.
