Thoothukudi, July 20 -- The principal Opposition DMK Legislator Markandeyan was arrested early on Monday for the alleged threatening remarks he made against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK Founder Vijay during a public meeting.

Markandeyan was elected from from Vilathikulam constituency in the southern Thoothukudi district in the recent Assembly elections.

The controversy stems from a speech delivered by him at a DMK-organised thanksgiving gathering held in Kovilpatti in Thoothukudi district. During the event, Markandeyan allegedly made remarks perceived as threatening towards the Chief Minister, which later went viral on social media, triggering widespread criticism.
