New Delhi, Jan. 14 -- BJP's national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala on Wednesday accused the Left government in Kerala of having an "anti-Hindu character" after revenue authorities issued a memo halting the construction of a temporary bridge for the upcoming Maha Magha festival in Thirunavaya.

He said the move to stop the bridge work essential for the festival -- called the Kumbh Mela of the south being restarted after years -- was a deliberate attempt to sabotage the event. Poonawala alleged that such concerns are only raised for Hindu festivals due to vote bank politics, citing past controversies such as the Sabarimala gold and ghee "loot".
