Srinagar, June 12 -- Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has suggested opening the strategic Indian Air Force air base at Awantipora in south Kashmir for limited civilian flight operations during the proposed closure of Srinagar International Airport in October this year.
The proposal was raised by the chief minister during separate meetings with union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu in New Delhi, where he expressed concern over the proposed shutdown of Srinagar airport from October 1 to 16 under Phase III of the runway resurfacing project.
