Bhubaneswar, June 19 -- In a major anti-corruption operation, Odisha Vigilance on Friday apprehended Soma Das, Junior Engineer (JE) of the General Electrical Division (GED), Jagatsinghpur, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.15,000.
According to Vigilance officials, the accused engineer allegedly sought the bribe from an executant for preparing an estimate for installation of street lights in a Gram Panchayat under Jagatsinghpur district.
Officials said the executant had submitted a letter from the Gram Panchayat authority on May 8, 2026, requesting preparation of the estimate to secure a work order for the project. However, despite repeated follow-ups, the estimate was allegedly kept pending without any valid reason.
