Bhubaneswar, Aug. 4 -- Odisha will upgrade the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) into the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), significantly enhancing the state's disaster response mechanism through improved infrastructure, manpower and operational capabilities.

The decision was taken at a high-level review meeting on Odisha's disaster management system and infrastructure chaired by Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari at Lok Seva Bhawan on Tuesday.

Announcing the decision, Pujari said the transformation of ODRAF into a dedicated SDRF would be carried out in phases. The force will have a separate battalion under an independent commanding officer to ensure a specialised and professional disaster response system....
