Bhubaneswar, Feb. 25 -- The Odisha Government on Wednesday decided to roll out the Central Scheme Pradhan Mantri Road Accident Victims Hospitalisation and Assured Treatment (PM-RAHAT) to reduce fatalities from road accidents and ensure immediate medical care for victims.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting, chaired by state Chief Secretary Anu Garg, and attended by senior officials of transport, health and police departments, besides district officials.
Under the new scheme, any person hospitalised within 24 hours of a road accident will receive free treatment for up to seven days or a maximum of Rs 1.5 lakh, funded entirely from the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund.
