Bhubaneswar, Jan. 22 -- Odisha Police has launched a long-term initiative to strengthen and modernize coastal security, Director General of Police YB Khurania said on Thursday.

As part of the 77th Republic Day celebrations, the DGP hoisted the national flag on the uninhabited Udabali Island near Dhamra Port in Bhadrak district, ahead of the official observance.

Highlighting the initiative, he said the state government has approved Rs 149 crore in this year's budget for the project.

The funds will be used to acquire mechanized boats, trawlers for maritime patrolling, drones for each coastal police station, and to deploy naval experts and professional advisors. Independent maritime police officers will also be stationed at fish landing cen...
