Bhubaneswar, Aug. 12 -- The Odisha Government is exploring a comprehensive social security package for Gaja Sathis and mahouts, recognising the risks faced by those working on the frontline of elephant conservation and human-elephant coexistence.
Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia said the State Government was exploring all possible avenues to provide accidental death insurance coverage to Gaja Sathis.
The proposed initiative seeks to go beyond death insurance and provide wider social security support to the frontline conservation workers and their families.
