Bhubaneswar, July 22 -- In a significant step towards strengthening legal safeguards for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs), the Odisha government has notified the establishment of six Exclusive Special Courts to ensure the speedy trial and effective prosecution of offences under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
The decision was taken following statutory consultations and recommendations from the High Court of Orissa. The state government said the move reflects its commitment to ensuring victim-centric justice, promoting social equity, and safeguarding the rights of vulnerable communities.
