Bhubaneswar, June 8 -- Odisha Vigilance officials on Monday arrested a woman MGNREGA assistant in Kalahandi district while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 35,000 from a beneficiary for facilitating the release of payments under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
The accused, Priyanka Jena, serving as MGNREGA Assistant in the Project Director (PD) Watershed office at Bhawanipatna, was caught red-handed while receiving the bribe amount, Vigilance sources said.
According to officials, Jena had allegedly demanded Rs 35,000 from a beneficiary in connection with the release of a bill amounting to Rs 2.68 lakh for the construction of farm ponds under the MGNREGA scheme. She had also sought the bribe for proce...
