Bhubaneshwar, May 1 -- Unauthorized extraction of river water by the Vedanta Aluminium Limited, India's largest aluminium producer, with operations in the states of Odisha and Chhattisgarh, has come under the spotlight with the State's water resources department slapping a penalty on the company's plant in Odisha's Jharsuguda district.

The Department has also directed the company authorities to immediately stop the acts of impropriety in the extraction of river water by stating that such acts adversely affect the rights and resources of the local community.
