Bhubaneswar, July 31 -- Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Friday called for a substantial increase in domestic edible oil production to reduce India's dependence on imports, saying it would strengthen the national economy, conserve valuable foreign exchange and enhance the country's food security.

Addressing a review meeting on the implementation of the National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) at New Abhishek Hall in Lok Bhavan, the Governor said that despite being an agrarian nation, India continues to import a significant portion of its edible oil requirement, resulting in a heavy outflow of foreign exchange.
