Bhubaneswar, March 17 -- Odisha Congress Legislature Party leader Ram Chandra Kadam, has urged Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy to disqualify three Congress MLAs under the anti-defection law for cross-voting during the recent Rajya Sabha elections in the state.
In a petition submitted to the Speaker, on Tuesday Kadam alleged that MLAs Dasarathi Gamang, Sofia Firdous and Ramesh Jena who were elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly as members of the Indian National Congress, violated the party whip by cross-voting in the Rajya Sabha election held on March 16.
Kadam stated that such action amounts to defection under the provisions of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution of India, commonly known as the anti-defection law.
