Bhubaneswar, April 25 -- The Odisha government has convened a special one-day session of the State Legislative Assembly on April 30 to deliberate on enhancing women's participation in Indian democracy.

According to Assembly Secretariat sources, the session has been summoned under Article 174(1) of the Constitution, with all members requested to attend. The discussion will centre on strengthening the role of women within the country's democratic framework.

Leaders of the ruling BJP have emphasized that women constitute nearly half of India's population and, therefore, deserve proportional representation in legislative bodies. The issue is expected to be a key focus during the session.
