Bhubaneswar, June 29 -- A Special Vigilance Court in Odisha's Sundargarh district has convicted a retired police officer and his wife in a disproportionate assets (DA) case, sentencing them to one year of rigorous imprisonment and imposing a fine of Rs 1 lakh each.

The convicts, Pravakar Panda, a former Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Banai Police Station in Sundargarh district, and his wife, Geetanjali Patra, a former assistant teacher at Government High School, Jhirpani, Rourkela, were found guilty under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.
