Bhubaneswar, Aug. 17 -- Around 100 metres of National Highway-53, a key road connecting Paradip Port with Odisha's mineral-rich hinterland, caved in near Nilachal Bazaar under Marshaghai police limits in Odisha's Kendrapara district today, raising concerns over the ongoing rebuilding and widening work.
Three trucks parked along the under-construction stretch fell into a roadside ditch after the road gave way. However, no casualties were reported as there were no drivers or helpers inside the vehicles at the time.
The incident has triggered questions among local residents over the quality of the ongoing highway construction and widening work, with some alleging that the collapse was caused by substandard construction.
