Bhubaneswar, May 16 -- A 12-year-old boy died and four other members of his family were taken ill after allegedly consuming stale curries and watermelon at Kupukuni village under Pattamundai police station jurisdiction in Odisha's Kendrapara district, officials said today.

The deceased, identified as Swadhin Senapati, was a Class VI student of the village school.

All five, including the minor of a family, developed symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, nausea and breathing difficulties shortly after consuming the food on Friday night, pointing to a suspected case of food poisoning, said Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) of Kendrapara Sachidananda Mishra.
