Bhubaneswar, Sept. 20 -- Five children suffered serious burn injuries after a diesel-operated generator caught fire during a Ganesh idol immersion procession in Ganjam district's Purushottampur town, police said today.
The children were watching the procession at Sitarampur Agraharam Sahi on Friday night, when the generator, mounted on a tractor and reportedly used to power the event, caught fire near a petrol container.
The flames quickly spread, injuring the children standing nearby. Locals rescued them and rushed them to the nearby Ayushman Arogya Mandir for preliminary treatment.
They were later shifted by ambulance to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur as their condition was reportedly critical.
