Hyderabad, Sept. 15 -- The Telangana State Committee of the National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled (NPRD) has announced that hunger strikes will be held in front of RDO offices across the state on September 20, demanding an increase in pensions and the sanctioning of new pension applications.
The committee recalled that during the assembly elections, the Congress party had promised to raise the monthly pension for persons with disabilities from Rs 4,016 to Rs 6,000, and for the elderly, widows, and other dependents from Rs 2,016 to Rs 4,000. However, despite being in power for 21 months, the state government has not implemented the promised hike.
