Nagpur, July 27 -- : A notorious thief escaped from the custody of the Hudkeshwar police in Nagpur on Monday, triggering a massive search operation by the city police, officials said.
The accused wanted in several criminal cases registered across Gondia, Bhandara, Nagpur and other places, had been taken into custody just three days ago.
According to police sources, Ekka alias Harsh Mahendra Ramteke, was arrested in connection with multiple theft cases and was being escorted by the Hudkeshwar police for investigation when he managed to flee from custody by taking advantage of a lapse in security in the morning .
Soon after the escape, police teams launched an intensive search operation and alerted all police stations across the city.
