Shillong, June 15 -- union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday said the North Eastern region has emerged as a strategic region of the Indian economy's growth in the past decade.

Addressing the North-East India Infrastructure Summit and Exhibition 2026 here in Meghalaya, Sonowal said the scale of public investment in the region since 2014 has fundamentally altered its economic trajectory.

"From frontier region to economic growth hub, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has led the Northeast's transformation and it is one of India's biggest success stories. The region has moved from the margins of national policymaking to the centre of India's development agenda," the union Minister said.
