Vijayawada, April 23 -- Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed the officials to take steps to achieve 2.1 percent fertility growth rate in the State.
The Chief Minister held a meeting at the secretariat at Amaravati, near here, on Wednesday with the officials and reviewed various issues. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister emphasized the need to move from 'population control' to 'population conservation'.
The officials explained to the Chief Minister that the fertility rate in the State has reduced from 2.1 per cent to 1.5, with the highest fertility rate of 1.99 in Kadapa district. The lowest fertility rate is 1.32 in Visakhapatnam, they told him.
