Kolkata, May 21 -- The Calcutta High Court on Thursday directed that no coercive action be taken against Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee till July 31 and he be given 48 hours' notice before being summoned for questioning, but refused to quash an FIR filed against the leader.

The FIR was filed against the Diamond Harbour MP over alleged provocative remarks made during the West Bengal Assembly election campaign.

While rejecting the plea filed by Banerjee to quash the FIR, Justice Sougata Bhattacharya questioned the "irresponsible" nature of the comments allegedly made by the TMC leader.
