Patna, June 21 -- The re-election of Nitish Kumar as the National President of the Janata Dal (United) was formally ratified at the party's National Council meeting held in Patna on Sunday. Umesh Singh Kushwaha was also entrusted with the responsibility of leading the party's Bihar unit for a third consecutive term.

The meeting marked Nitish Kumar's first major organisational engagement after stepping down as Chief Minister. He attended the gathering solely in his capacity as the JD(U)'s National President, with his role focused entirely on organisational matters.
