Nagpur, Nov. 4 -- Senior Congress leader Nitin Raut today issued a strong rebuttal to BJP leader Ashish Shelar's recent allegation that more than 8,000 Muslim votes were registered in North Nagpur.
Addressing a press conference here, Raut described Shelar's comments as 'baseless political propaganda intended to sow communal division and erode public trust in the electoral process.
"A voter is not recognised by religion or caste but as a citizen. Every vote is equal - Hindu, Muslim, Dalit or OBC. The country stands on the foundation of the Constitution " Raut said.
He emphasised that voter list preparation is the exclusive responsibility of the Election Commission of India and no political party or individual can interfere in it.
