Chennai, Nov. 6 -- The technological expertise of the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) would play a vital role in strengthening fisheries infrastructure and improving fishermen's livelihoods, according to Tamil Nadu Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare Minister A.Srinath.
Speaking at the 33rd Foundation Day of the NIOT, an autonomous institute under the union Ministry of Earth Sciences, at its campus here last evening, Srinath appreciated NIOT's achievements in deep-sea exploration, Low Temperature Thermal Desalination (LTTD) technology and the MATSYA-6000 submersible.
He also highlighted the significance of tsunami early warning systems in safeguarding coastal communities.
