Chennai, Aug. 6 -- The National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), an autonomous institute under the union Ministry of Earth Sciences, has been engaged in the development of technologies for the sustainable exploration and utilization of ocean resources and plays a leading role in implementing key national initiatives under the Deep Ocean Mission, including deep-sea mining technologies, underwater systems, ocean observation, marine renewable energy, and coastal engineering.
The Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), through the NIOT has launced a National Technothon aimed at developing innovative technologies for the sustainable collection of deep-sea polymetallic nodules.
