Washim, July 2 -- : In a landmark verdict, a district sessions court in Maharashtra's Washim on Thursday sentenced nine police personnel, including Madhav Manikrao Dhande , the then officer-in-charge of Risod police station, to life imprisonment in connection with the 2011 custodial death of a man identified as Begya Pawar.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each convict, with an additional six months' simple imprisonment in case of default.

Four of the convicted policemen were also awarded separate sentences under provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, with all sentences to run concurrently.
