Gangtok, July 21 -- At least nine workers have been killed and several others injured after a section of the under-construction tunnel of the NHPC Teesta Stage VI Hydroelectric Project collapsed at Samardung, Jholungey, in Sikkim's Namchi district, officials said on Tuesday.
Rescue teams pulled out 16 workers after the tunnel caved in on Monday afternoon.
The operation continued throughout the night and was still underway on Tuesday, with officials fearing the death toll could rise further.
