Kendrapara, March 16 -- Officials of the Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary arrested nine fishermen early Monday morning for illegally fishing inside the sanctuary's prohibited No Fishing Zone.
According to Ranger Kapilendra Pradhan, forest personnel intercepted a fishing trawler that had trespassed into the restricted area.
During the operation, the team arrested the fishermen and seized two GPS devices, two VHF sets, one fish finder, ten trawling nets, and about 5.8 quintals of miscellaneous marine fish.
The arrested fishermen were booked under various sections of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. They were later produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Kendrapara, which remanded them to judicial custody.
