New Delhi, Aug. 6 -- The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of reports of the death of a 12-year-old girl allegedly due to jaundice caused by the consumption of contaminated drinking water in Shahzadpur area of Haryana's Ambala district.

The Commission has also taken note of reports that several other children in the locality have been diagnosed with jaundice.

Acting on media reports, the NHRC has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary of Haryana, seeking a detailed report within two weeks on the incident and the measures taken by the state administration.
