New Delhi, July 17 -- The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of the death of a sanitation worker and the serious injury of another after they allegedly inhaled toxic gases while cleaning a sewage treatment plant (STP) tank in Haryana's Hisar district.
The Commission has sought a detailed report from the Haryana government and the district police within two weeks.
Issuing notices to the Haryana Chief Secretary and the Superintendent of Police, Hisar, the NHRC observed that if the reported facts are correct, the incident raises serious concerns regarding the violation of the workers' human rights.
