Kendrapara, June 16 -- The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Tuesday sought an Action Taken Report (ATR) from the Kendrapara District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police within 15 days over allegations of misconduct and denial of procedural safeguards to Tikhiri Sarpanch Chameli Ojha.

The apex human rights body issued the direction after taking cognisance of a petition filed by rights activist Manoj Jena, Chairperson of Human Rights Front, Bhubaneswar.

In his petition, Jena alleged that Ojha had been "falsely implicated" in a case lodged by the Mahakalapada Block Development Officer (BDO), involving charges including attempt to murder, causing hurt and obstructing a public servant.
