New Delhi, Sept. 22 -- The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today issued notices to the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and the Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, following a complaint alleging that actor Ranbir Kapoor was shown using a banned e-cigarette in the Netflix web series The Ba**ds of Bollywood*, without any health warning or statutory disclaimer.
The Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the matter under Section 12 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, terming the act a serious violation of Indian law and potentially harmful to public health and morality.
