Lucknow, April 17 -- The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India conducted a virtual hearing on 216 cases of alleged bonded labour in brick kilns across several districts of Uttar Pradesh on Friday.
The hearing was chaired by Justice V. Ramasubramanian, with participation from NHRC Secretary General Bharat Lal, Registrar (Law) Joginder Singh, and other senior officials.
Key representatives from the Uttar Pradesh government, including the Labour Commissioner, District Magistrates, and Additional District Magistrates, also joined the session.
While acknowledging their presence, Justice Ramasubramanian remarked that such a hearing would not have been necessary if officials had fulfilled their responsibilities properly.
