New Delhi, Sept. 18 -- The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report revealing the accumulation of unclaimed dead bodies in the mortuary of Raipur District Hospital, Chhattisgarh, owing to inadequate space for performing last rites.

According to the report, while an NGO has been conducting the last rites, three unidentified bodies have reportedly remained unexamined for post-mortem for over a week, the NHRC said in an official statement today.
