Kolkata, July 31 -- The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has ordered the West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) to investigate allegations that a concrete mixing plant in New Town has been exposing around 380 families to hazardous cement dust.
The Green Tribunal on Friday directed the WBPCB to inspect the concrete mixing plant and submit a report within three months.
The direction came from the NGT's Eastern Zone Bench while hearing a plea filed by Hiranmoy Sarkar, a resident of the Magnolia Merlion housing complex in New Town.
Several real estate and infrastructural projects as well as standalone buildings are coming up in New Town for the past several years. The area is one of the fastest-growing townships in Kolkata.
