Miami, June 25 -- Brazil superstar Neymar made an emotional return to international football after 981 days, coming on as a substitute in Brazil's 3-0 win over Scotland in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group C match here on Thursday IST.
The 34-year-old forward, who had been sidelined since October 2023 due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury, entered the field in the 76th minute with Brazil already in control of the contest. His comeback was met with a standing ovation from the spectators as he appeared visibly emotional during and after the match.
Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti eased Neymar back into action, introducing him late in the second half as part of a cautious recovery plan to manage his match fitness during the tournament.
