Itanagar, July 20 -- A new flowering tree species, Mitrephora rashmiae, has been discovered in the forests of Upper Subansiri district, marking a significant addition to botanical science and highlighting Arunachal Pradesh's rich biodiversity.

The newly identified species is the first known member of the genus Mitrephora to exhibit andromonoecy-the presence of both male and bisexual flowers on the same plant. It is also only the second Mitrephora species to be recorded from the Himalayan Biodiversity Hotspot, making the discovery scientifically significant.
