Pune, Sept. 16 -- Senior Kirtankar Dr Charudatta Afale was honoured with the 'Kirtan Ratna' award for his contribution to the art of kirtan at a programme held at Patrakar Bhavan here on Wednesday.
Pune Festival president Krishnakumar Goel presented the award to Afale.
The honour included a memento, Puneri turban, shawl, coconut and bouquet. Kirtan exponent Ramchandra Bhide was present as the chief guest.
Pune Festival trustee Mohan Tillu and Nivedita Mehendale were also present.
Speaking after receiving the award, Afale said there was a need to connect the younger generation with the kirtan tradition.
