Mumbai, July 16 -- - Two youths were rescued by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) after they got stranded on a small islet in the Kal River near Akle village in Mahad taluka of Raigad district of Mahrshtra, officials said on Thursday.

The incident took place on Wednesday evening when Adil Shakeel Khan and another youth, identified as Shambhu, had gone to the islet for a walk on the islet in Mahad taluka. Suddenly, the water level in the river rose due to heavy rainfall in the upper catchment area, cutting off their way back to the riverbank.

After seeing the two youths trapped in the middle of the river, local villagers informed the district administration.
