Srinagar, Oct. 24 -- Jammu and Kashmir's ruling National Conference (NC) secured three seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party bagged the remaining one in the first Rajya Sabha polls in J&K today since the abrogation of Article 370 and downgrading of the erstwhile state into a union Territory in 2019.
The NC was in direct contest with the BJP and the People's Conference - led by Sajad Lone - chose to abstain from voting.
A total of 87 votes were polled in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, which has a current strength of 88 members. Sajad Lone was the only member to abstain from voting.
NC candidate on the first notification and former Minister Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan was elected by securing 58 votes against 28 of the BJP.
