Navy commando critically injured during a rescue operation in Uri

Srinagar, March 17 -- A Navy Marine Commando (MARCOS) sustained critical injuries after falling into the Jhelum River during a search operation in north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Tuesday, officials said.

The injured commando was part of a joint team comprising Navy personnel, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Baramulla and J&K police that had resumed a search operation at Chandanwari Boniyar.

Officials said the team was conducting searches to trace the body of a woman who had reportedly jumped into the river on March 13 when the incident occurred.

During the rescue operation, the Navy Marine Commando slipped and fell into the river, suffering critical injuries. He was immediately rescued and shifted to Army Hospital for initial ...
