Bhubaneswar, Aug. 19 -- Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday strongly opposed the recently passed amendment to the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, saying it would cause serious damage to Odisha and its people.

In a video message, Patnaik said such an important amendment Bill was passed by the Centre without adequate discussion in Parliament and claimed that only BJD MPs opposed it in the Rajya Sabha.

The Leader of Opposition said no one was bigger than the interests of Odisha and its people and called for unity to protect the state's interests.

"We must come together not for the sake of any political party, but for the interests of our state and our soil," he said.
