New Delhi, Aug. 27 -- The Centre has revised the national action plan on glanders, aimed at strengthening surveillance, prevention, and control of this contagious and often fatal disease affecting equines.

Key changes include reducing the infected zone radius from 5 km to 2 km, redefining the surveillance area to 2-10 km with movement restrictions limited to 10 km, enhanced mandatory testing in high-risk areas, stricter quarantine and movement controls, and a rapid response mechanism for containment and humane handling of positive cases.

The plan has been prepared by Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD), under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, said a statement issued here.
