Kolkata, Sept. 23 -- Congress candidate for the Nandigram Assembly bypoll, Milon Pradhan, has approached the Calcutta High Court seeking bail in a case dating back to the 2007 Nandigram movement.
Pradhan's lawyer, Milon Mukhopadhyay, on Wednesday drew the attention of Justice Tirthankar Ghosh to the matter and sought an early hearing, citing the approaching bypoll.
The court permitted the case to be filed, with the matter likely to come up for hearing later this week.
Mukhopadhyay told the court that Pradhan is currently a candidate in the Nandigram bypoll and is in judicial custody.
With polling scheduled for October 6, his bail plea needs to be heard urgently, the lawyer submitted.
