Nagpur, May 21 -- In a major crackdown, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Nagpur, on Thursday caught a Superintending Engineer of the Water Resources Department red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 70,000 for clearing pending bills worth Rs 25 lakh and approving a new tender.

The accused has been identified as Ravindra Nilkanthrao Wankhede, serving as Superintending Engineer in the Mechanical Circle of the Water Resources Department.

According to ACB officials, Wankhede had allegedly demanded a bribe at the rate of two per cent for clearing pending bills amounting to Rs 25 lakh linked to projects in Karajkheda in Bhandara district and Lakhmapur in Nagpur district.
